How to paint with linseed oil paint

Painting new, untreated interior joinery

1. Preparation and priming

Two coats of shellac solution (knot sealer) are applied to knots before painting. Drying time 30 minutes.

Add 2 tsp desiccant per liter in the standard paint and then mix your own primer as follows: Dilute the paint by 15% volume with Gentle Thinner or Gum Turpentine.

Apply a thin layer of primer. Let dry for at least 2 days, then sand the surface lightly with fine sandpaper. Spackle any small holes and irregularities, for example with Rubinol oil putty. Wait 30 minutes and sand the spackled areas so they are even. Prime the spackled areas.

2: Intermediate application

Apply a thin, even layer of undiluted paint. Let dry for at least 2 days and then lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper.

3. Final application

Apply a thin, even layer of undiluted paint.

Tip: For a smoother spread of the paint and increased gloss, modify the final coat color by adding 5 to 10% Ottosson Linseed Oil Varnish.
