Shellac & twig varnish

Shellac/Shellac/Twig varnish is often used as insulation of twigs, moisture damage and soot before painting. It is a pure natural product and non-toxic.
Shellac is produced by a small coil-shaped purple louse called Lucifer Lacca where the female seeks out twigs with tender shoots and by piercing the twig with her sucking proboscis sucks in the nutrition in the twig. When it begins to suck in the sap, the shellac is formed from the residual products the louse emits. Are the larvae affected by bad weather when they are looking for new host trees, or is the area affected by e.g. frost for longer periods, the animals die and the production of shellac decreases. This means that the availability of the raw material varies and prices can therefore fluctuate greatly.
Shellac is only soluble in alcohol. It is also used for a variety of other purposes such as protection of fruit, confectionery, chocolate and pharmaceuticals. As insulation in electronics. As a surface treatment for furniture, as a gloss in cosmetics. Shellac can also be used to stiffen textiles, leather and hats. Only the imagination puts an end to its use.
